UNDER LAKE NUBIA

The first rain of the season.  I heat up the galette that Lily and I made with the leftover dough from our annual apple-pie-athon.  Five pies, 2 galettes.  Boy, we could use a crust tutorial.  But delicious!  Betcha.

The first rain of the season.  Guilt-free stay at home.  I put on Hamza El Din.  The liner notes: Toshka, the timeless village of Hamza El Din’s childhood, has been submerged at the bottom of Lake Nubia for a generation, drowned by the international politics of hydroelectric power.  Hamza’s life-long wish has been that his lost village not be lost––that the ancient wholeness of its ways and mores be restored to the modern people of Nubia, and to people everywhere.

The first rain.  Under a beneficent dome of clouds, Toshka surfaces.
